About Anita

Growing up in Texas, where big means BIG, the road to fitness did not come easily for me. Fighting off large portions and trying to stay cool in 100 degree heat was not a motivating environment to keep healthy. Think unlimited soda refills, lunch buffets, four-course Indian meals, all you can eat pizza for $7.99. As a result, food (in large quantities and portions) has always been a part of my life. The key—and the hard part—was gaining control. About five years ago I made the ultimate decision to change my life and gain the knowledge necessary to propel me into a well-balanced and healthy lifestyle.

In 2005, I received the MADDOG spinning certification, which led to teaching at various fitness centers and acquiring additional certifications in fitness including Aerobics & Fitness Association of America (AFAA) for group exercise and kickboxing, National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) for Certified Personal Training (CPT), as well as gained my CPR/AED certification.  In 2006 became a student at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition where I graduated in 2007 as a holistic health counselor.  However, I did not feel as though I was equipped with the appropriate and adequate education suited to provide nutrition expertise. As a result, I applied to NYU’s MS program in Clinical Nutrition and have been taking enrolled in the program since 2008.  In addition to the MS program, I began teaching at New York Sports Club (NYSC), Crunch, Club H Fitness, and NYC YMCA’s to continue utilizing my fitness certifications.

What's new? Well, I passed the RD exam last Fall -- so it's official to say that I am a Registered Dietitian. In addition, I also completed my MS in Clinical Nutrition. I am working with a fellow fitness enthusiast friend to launch FitMapped.com - a fitness and nutrition based start-up in NYC. I am energetic, motivated, and passionate about nutrition and fitness. I believe in enjoying life but with everything in moderation. For relaxation or during my spare time, I enjoy dancing, spending time with friends & family, shopping, and doing yoga.
